  3. Action: Discuss the actions you took to tackle the task. Be detailed and specific about the steps you took. This is where you showcase your problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  4. Result: Finally, explain the results of your actions. What were the outcomes? Use this stage to quantify your achievements and emphasise the positive impact of your actions.


Now, let's walk through an example using the STAR method:


Interviewer Question: "Tell me about a time when you had to handle a difficult customer. How did you address the situation?"


Job Seeker Response:

Situation: In my previous role as a customer service representative at XYZ Company, I encountered a challenging situation with an irate customer.


Task: My task was to resolve the customer's issue while maintaining the company's reputation and ensuring the customer remained a satisfied client.


Action: I began by actively listening to the customer's concerns, empathising with their frustration, and apologising for any inconvenience they experienced. I then calmly explained our company's policies and procedures. To address their specific issue, I collaborated with a senior colleague to find a unique solution within our guidelines. I maintained a polite and respectful tone throughout the conversation.


Result: As a result of my actions, the customer's issue was resolved to their satisfaction within 24 hours. Furthermore, they sent a positive email praising our company's dedication to resolving customer problems, which the company used as a testimonial on their website. This incident also reinforced my reputation as a team player and a problem solver within the company.
